The Maranhão region of Brazil is home to several indigenous communities, many of whom have a long tradition of crafting intricate and beautiful cuia necklaces. Cuia is a gourd that is commonly used in the Amazon region for a variety of purposes, including making containers, musical instruments, and jewelry.

Cuia necklaces made by Maranhão indigenous people are not only beautiful but also have cultural significance. They often represent the traditions and beliefs of the indigenous communities that produce them. Wearing a cuia necklace can be a way to connect with the rich cultural heritage of the Amazon region.

Length:

Our beads are made from wild harvested material, they are polished, hand drilled and dyed by Amazonian artisans. As each bead is a seed or part of a shell, designed by Mother Nature herself and hand worked, there are variations in shape, size and color from bead to bead.

This necklace is handmade in Maranhão by indigenous people, they are self employed and ride hours in a bus to share their culture with the largest artisan market in Belem.

Care: These are natural material, water and sun may make their colors dull (they will still be pretty), Please use clear beeswax based balms, or a light oil to polish them if needed.

Every time we consume Amazon sustainable products we give the local and indigenous people an alternative to logging and farming which are the two largest destroyers of such an important ecosystem.

NOT FOR KIDS who like to swallow pretty colorful things, keep away from your dogs as they seem to love these seeds!
